The National Grid headquarters in Waltham and an eco-friendly Somerville apartment complex have been honored with this year’s Innovation in Green Design Award.

National Grid’s building was awarded for the best design, and the Saint Polycarp Village Apartments in Somerville was given an honorable mention.

The awards are given each year by the Massachusetts Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. The Innovation in Green Design Awards recognizes Massachusetts-based projects, products, and technologies that are innovative, replicable, and have significant impact in Massachusetts.

"These awards demonstrate how we can bring the greatest amount of green to the greatest number of people," said jury member James Batchelor. "The National Grid project mainstreams Platinum performance in the development and corporate communities. Polycarp Village greens affordable communities and main streets."
In addition to Batchelor, president and CEO of Somerville architecture firm Arrowstreet, other judges included David Newman, senior director of Global Sustainability at Millipore Corp.; and Edward Connelly, president of New Ecology Inc. in Boston.
