At the end of the month, Fitchburg Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union (MEFCU) is set to merge into Worcester-based Webster First Federal Credit Union, marking Webster’s second such transaction this year.
In May, Webster acquired Saugus Federal Credit Union.
The 57-year-old Fitchburg MEFCU has $22 million in assets, 3,000 members, and one public and one high school branch. Webster boasts $550 million in assets, 43,000 members and thirteen branches, according to a statement.
"We are looking forward to partnering with Webster First. The board and management sought to find a partner that will allow us to maintain our identity while providing us with the ability to grow and present more opportunities to our members," Fitchburg MEFCU President Barbara Goodwin said in a statement. "We will continue to serve our members with the same friendly staff and branch location that we have for many years."
Webster First President/CEO Michael Lussier called the move a "win-win" situation for both institutions.
Webster First, established in 1928, has offices in Auburn, Charlton, Douglas, Dudley, Saugus, Spencer, Webster, West Boylston, Whitinsville and Worcester.
