The town of Westport is seeking proposals to develop 31 acres of town land into 54 units of mixed-income housing.
The preferred development scenario would be no more than 54 units, with 30 percent of the units to be sold or rented by the developer to households earning no more than 80 percent of the area’s median income, according to a statement.
Westport’s efforts to develop the property began in spring 2006 when it used $750,000 in Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds to purchase one parcel and took an adjacent property for back taxes, creating the site known as the Noquochoke Village Property. The town has rezoned the property for multifamily housing, creating the Noquochoke Overlay District.
Pre-development work for the Noquochoke site has included remediation of a contaminated portion of the site, funded with a $200,000 loan from MassDevelopment, according to a statement. Additional pre-development work was supported with town CPA funds and federal HOME funds, which paid for technical assistance work by the Massachusetts Housing Partnership. ThE pre-development work included site development research and assessing the financial feasibility of the development.
Developers have until May 23 to respond with proposals to purchase and develop the property.
