Mark R. Whalen has been named president and COO of Needham Bank.

Whalen, who was already COO, is responsible for the bank’s overall implementation of objectives, policies and plans. He also has oversight of the bank’s finances.

Whalen has more than 30 years of industry experience, and is the former president and CEO of the Dedham Cooperative Bank. He joined Needham Bank in March 2007 when the two institutions merged.

"It is my goal and mission to provide the guidance and direction necessary to make certain that Needham Bank maintains its standing as a recognized leader in community banking," Whalen said in prepared remarks.

Whalen is a graduate of Stonehill College and the Graduate School of Community Bank Management at the University of Texas, Austin.

He lives in Dedham.

Needham Bank has locations in Needham, Dedham, Medfield, Wellesley and Westwood.
