Michael R. Wheeler has been named chief executive officer and president of Beverly Cooperative Bank.

Wheeler has served as the bank’s president since January 1, 2012. Bill Howard, former CEO and chairman of the board of directors, will continue in his role of chairman of the board of directors.

Wheeler joined the bank in 2000 as a commercial loan officer. In 2007 he became senior vice president, overseeing Beverly Cooperative Bank’s complete lending function.

"Mike is collaborative in nature. He has been an integral part of the Bank’s growth and a champion of community involvement," Howard said in a statement.

Wheeler earned a bachelor of science at University of Southern Maine and a master of business administration from Endicott College, Beverly. Well known in the communities Beverly Cooperative Bank serves, he is currently on the Board of directors of the North Shore United Way and Salem Chamber of Commerce. Wheeler is a former board member and treasurer of the Salem Boys and Girls Club and Salem Rotary Club. He and his family reside in Beverly.
