Wonderland Greyhound Park in Revere is shutting down after 75 years following the end of dog racing in the Massachusetts and the apparent demise of a casino gambling bill.

In a statement on Thursday, Wonderland President Richard Dalton said the facility could no longer compete in a "drastically changed gaming market." He said the facility’s remaining employees were given notice this week that operations were being suspended.

The track had remained open for simulcasting only since a state greyhound racing ban took effect on Jan. 1.

Dalton’s statement did not specifically mention the casino bill which was approved by the Legislature and would authorize three resort-style casinos and slot machines at two of the state’s four race tracks.

Gov. Deval Patrick refused to sign the measure, instead asking lawmakers to strip out the racino provision. (AP)
