Stuart F. Young Jr. is stepping down from the board of directors of Springfield-based Hampden Bank and Hampden Bancorp Inc.

Young will continue to serve as an unpaid consultant to the board until April 30. He has served as a director of the company since 2007 and as a director of the bank since 1986. Young has also served as chairman of the board.

"We want to extend our appreciation to Mr. Young for his years of service with our organization. The board is grateful for his dedication and his contributions to the bank over the last 27 years. We congratulate him on his retirement and wish him well in his future endeavors," stated Glenn S. Welch, chief executive officer and president of Hampden Bancorp Inc. and Hampden Bank.
