Preleasing for September occupancy has begun at The Eddy, a 16-story apartment complex being developed by Portland, Oregon-based Gerding Edlen at 10 New St. on the East Boston waterfront.
Monthly rents will start at $1,800 for studios, $2,050 for one-bedrooms and $3,200 for two-bedroom units.
A restaurant owned by Restaurant Navy Yard Hospitality Group will occupy 5,000 square feet on the ground floor. Chef and partner Marc Orfaly will lead the restaurant project.
Designed by ADD Inc., the $130 million project replaced a 9-story vacant warehouse on the 4-acre site with a 242,615-square-foot apartment building containing 258 units and a three-story parking garage. The property includes a new waterfront park, boat landing and extension of the Boston Harborwalk.
The Eddy name was chosen by consultants Korn Design to evoke the movement of water as well as the history of the site, Gerding Edlen said in a statement. 19th-century architect Robert Henry Eddy surveyed East Boston properties and compiled maps now preserved in the Norman B. Leventhal Map Center at the Boston Public Library.
Commissioned art installations will include a 2-story leaded glass exhibit by Harbor Arts suspended over the lobby windows; wall relief commissioned by Artists for Humanity and a neon and mirrored art installation by over, under studio in Boston. Common area amenities include a communal kitchen, pool deck, conference rooms and dog wash.
