The American Automobile Association has launched a new college loan counseling program meant to help students and parents from Massachusetts go through the financial aid application process.

With the deadline for college applications just around the corner, the program aims to provide one-on-one counseling at all Massachusetts AAA Northeast branches. According to AAA, the group’s financial advisors will offer assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and understanding student loan options. Advisors will also assist recent graduates who are paying back their student loans.

“Applying to college is an exciting time, but often, parents and students don’t have all the information they need to make such a challenging and important financial decision,” AAA’s senior student loan manager Don Kerr said in a statement. “We work with families to make sure they have all the knowledge and tools available to ensure they are making the right decision for their family and their student.”

In the past year, AAA has ramped up its approach to financial aid counseling, releasing a “college planning checklist” and a nearly 40-page long financial aid guide. As part of their loan and banking product services, the association also established a student loan and refinance loan program, offering seminars and webinars, as well as tuition insurance.

The “Ask a Specialist” members-only program will run year-round, with meetings available by appointment. AAA Northeast has 67 offices in New England, New York and New Jersey, and nearly 6 million members.
