After stepping down this month as the Boston Celtics’ president of basketball operations, Danny Ainge is putting his Wellesley home up for sale for $4.5 million.
The five-bedroom, 8,309-square-foot Colonial currently contains numerous nods to the former NBA player and coach’s athletic interests, including the team’s 2008 championship banner and framed jerseys of former Celtics Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.
Located in the Country Club neighborhood, the house at 140 Wellesley Ave. includes recent updates such as a new kitchen with “extra refrigeration,” and visitor-friendly third floor with a bedroom, bath and laundry, according to an online listing by agent Chrissie Lawrence of Wellesley-based Rutledge Properties.
Ainge bought the house in 2003 for $2.3 million, shortly after he was named to lead the Celtics’ front office. Following the team’s second-round playoff exit in May, Ainge handed his management role over to head coach Brad Stevens.
