Crews from Turner Construction hoisted the final beam completing the framing of Amazon’s future office complex in Boston’s Seaport District, which is scheduled for completion next year.

A 2,000-employee workforce in Amazon’s machine learning, speech science, cloud computing and robotics divisions will occupy 430,000 square feet in the 17-story office tower at 111 Harbor Way.

Gensler’s Boston and San Francisco offices collaborated on the design which pays homage to the Fort Point neighborhood’s industrial past while adding modern elements such as outdoor terraces on alternate floors. The project includes will a ground-level interior promenade lined with retail tenants and restaurants, and borders the one-third-mile Harbor Way pedestrian path connecting Summer Street to the waterfront.

“In these uncertain times, it is ever more important to set our sights on Boston’s bright future. This morning, we celebrate all that this building signifies for Seaport and for Boston – job creation, economic empowerment, innovation, and the expansion of the public realm in our community,” said Yanni Tsipis, senior vice president for WS Development, owner of the 33-acre Boston Seaport portfolio, in a statement.

The project is one of two major projects under way on the remaining parcels in the master-planned development.

In 2019, Cambridge-based Foundation Medicine leased 580,000 square feet in a 16-story tower at 400 Summer St. which is scheduled for completion in 2022.
