Holyoke will be the site of Amazon’s latest distribution center this fall, according to city Mayor Alex Morse.

The mayor, who is running for Congress against Rep. Richard Neal, announced that Amazon would be hiring “hundreds” of staff for the facility at a starting wage of $15 per hour, but did not specify how big it would be.

The facility is planned for 161 Lower Westfield Road, the former site of a charter school and a compressor manufacturer. According to city property records, the 22.79-acre site currently hosts a 138,289-square-foot warehouse built in 1968. The property is valued at $2.9 million and sits just off Exit 15 on Interstate 91.

“As mayor, I am encouraged by Amazon’s commitment to hire locally, provide hundreds of living-wage jobs, and strengthen our tax base,” Morse said in a statement. “The distribution center will continue to help Holyoke grow and diversify our economy while providing job opportunities to residents. I look forward to working with their representatives.”
