Eastern Bank announced the appointment of Steven L. Antonakes as senior vice president and chief compliance officer.

Antonakes brings 25 years of compliance, risk management and financial services experience to Eastern Bank, most recently working as deputy director and associate director for supervision, enforcement and fair lending at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Antonakes resigned as the No. 2 official at the CFPB earlier this year, citing the long commute from Massachusetts to Washington and a desire to spend more time with his family.

Prior to his time with the CFPB, Antonakes was the Massachusetts commissioner of banking.
