Quincy-based Arbella Insurance Foundation has awarded 25 one-time grants of $50,000 to local charities throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut as part of its "50 to 25" program.

The foundation’s selection committee chose the 25 recipient charities from proposals submitted by Arbella employees, independent insurance agents and charitable partners. Checks were presented to the selected social services, health and education charities at a luncheon in Quincy on Sept. 10.

One recipient, Interfaith Social Services, a grassroots organization that supports South Shore residents, will use its grant to replace rotting windows and resurface the floors in the counseling center and thrift shop as well as fix the heating system in half of the building.

Other grant recipients include the Attleboro YMCA, Cradles to Crayons in Brighton and Crossroads for Kids in Duxbury.

The "50 to 25" program was created to celebrate the insurance group’s 25th anniversary this year and to recognize the important role its foundation plays in supporting the communities in which the company operates.

"We’re proud to be celebrating Arbella’s 25th anniversary this year," John Donohue, chairman, president and CEO of the Arbella Insurance Group and its foundation, said in a statement. "In recognition of that milestone and the important role Arbella’s foundation plays in supporting our communities, we wanted to do something that would have a real impact in our communities. I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate Arbella’s 25 years of serving New England than to recognize the charities that are helping to make this region thrive."
