At least one Massachusetts bank has closed branches due to the coronavirus. Avidia Bank stopped offering services inside its branches at 17 Pope St and 42 Main St in Hudson after closing the branches late last week for cleaning through the weekend as a precaution due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Staff at those branches are handling banking transactions only through the drive-up window until further notice. No walk-in service is available at this time.

“We are doing all we can to stay as fully operational as possible,” the bank said in an update on its website. “We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, but the safety and health of our employees and customers is our priority. Rest assured that your funds are safe and secure.”

Avidia is one of the largest employers in Hudson, according to a post on the bank’s Facebook page, and the two buildings have over 150 employees.

Avidia, like other banks, is pointing out alternatives to branch banking, including online or mobile banking, ATM withdrawal/deposit access and assistance through the customer contact center.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency issued guidance on Friday to banks that need to temporarily close or reduce access to a facility because of staffing challenges or to take precautionary measures.

The OCC encouraged banks to provide alternative service options when practical in order to reduce disruptions to their customers. The regulator said affected facilities should be reopened when it is safe to do so.

Affected banks should also notify their OCC supervisory office and their customers of temporary closure of a bank’s facilities and the availability of any alternative service options as soon as practical.
