Philadelphia-based ax-throwing parlor Urban Axes has opened its newest location at 2 Union Square in Somerville.

The Hamilton Co. of Allston acquired the 15,600-square-foot property in 2013 for $1.9 million and spent $1 million on a roof replacement, new sprinkler systems, water and sewer service and a partial facade replacement. With the collaboration of the Somerville Arts Council, The Hamilton Co. arranged for street artist Victor “Marka27” Quinonez to paint a mural on the building’s west wall.

Hamilton Co. owns 2 million square feet of commercial properties and 5,600 multifamily units. Hamilton Co. founder Harold Brown’s investment in Union Square dates back six decades, having owned a donut shop in the 1940s before being called up for the Korean War in the early 1950s.
