The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) will subsidize an assisted-living housing development in Belchertown known as Christopher Heights.

The project, being undertaken by assisted living developer Grantham Group LLC and overseen by MassDevelopment, will be funded by $2.45 million in conditional low-income housing federal tax credits and DHCD subsidies.

In addition to the low-income housing tax credit allocation, Belchertown voters approved $250,000 from the Belchertown CPA Affordable Housing Reserve for the project.

A redevelopment of the former Belchertown State School, Christopher Heights (a brand name for Grantham’s assisted living communities statewide) will feature 83 units, 40 of which will be classified as affordable.

The development is expected to support 65 construction jobs and create 40 permanent positions.
