Jamie Moses, who will leave his role as Berkshire Bank’s chief financial officer at the end of this week, has new job  in the same role at a St. Louis bank.

First Bank, a fourth-generation family-owned bank headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, said in a statement yesterday that it had named Moses its new CFO.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Jamie to the First Bank family,” Shelley Seifert, First Bank’s chairman and CEO, said in the statement. “His extensive knowledge in the financial services arena will make him a valued partner in First Bank’s long-term growth strategy.”

Berkshire Bank announced in an SEC filing on Friday that Moses had submitted his resignation.

Moses had been cited in a letter that one of Berkshire Bank’s shareholders, New York-based HoldCo Asset Management, had sent in February to Berkshire’s board chairman, questioning the bank’s decision to hire a new CEO instead of pursuing other alternatives, including a sale. Berkshire had announced last August that it would search for a new leader after then-CEO Richard Marotta abruptly resigned. Nitin Mhatre was announced as the new CEO in January.

In its letter, HoldCo cited comments Moses had made about Berkshire Bank at an industry conference. According to HoldCo, Moses reportedly said he did not believe that the board had considered a sale or partnership during the CEO search and that he was “disappointed” in the board. Berkshire agreed earlier this month to cooperate with HoldCo.

Berkshire Bank has appointed Brett Brbovic, senior vice president and chief accounting officer, as acting CFO effective March 19, according to the SEC filing. The bank said it would search for a permanent CFO.

Moses said First Bank’s commitment to family-owned businesses was one of the strengths that attracted him to the bank. First Bank has more than $6.6 billion in assets and 79 locations in California, Missouri and Illinois.

“I’m proud to be part of the First Bank family,” Moses said in the statement. “First Bank is well-positioned for growth, and there is tremendous opportunity to help this team write a new chapter in First Bank’s multi-generational history.”
