Borrego Solar Systems Inc. will relocate its eastern U.S. headquarters in May to 12,723 square feet of space at 55 Technology Drive in Lowell.

The move represents a 20 percent expansion for the company, which is currently located on Westford Street. Borrego is a designer and installer of grid-tied solar photovoltaic systems.

JLL’s Brian Tisbert, Chris Lawrence and Mike Ciummei represented Borrego Solar in the transaction.

“We’ve had an office in the Lowell area since 2007 and finding a new space nearby that could accommodate our immediate and future growth projections was important in our ability to continue serving the market,” COO Brendan Neagle said in a statement.

Located in the Drum Hill section of Lowell, 55 Technology Drive is a two-story, 90,000-square-foot office building. Other tenants include Boston Scientific and Lowell Five bank.

Property owner Novaya Real Estate Ventures was founded in 2012 by James Alden, Scott Tully, Peter Carbone and Jeff Theobold. The company has acquired 1.6 million square feet of commercial properties valued at $280 million in Greater Boston.
