A new Massport lease for a 3.4-acre portion of the Boston Autoport property in Charlestown would include new bike and pedestrian paths connecting the waterfront to the Boston Harborwalk and Sullivan Square.

Diversified Automotive Inc. subleases the property from Massport for motor vehicle import-exports and storage. Massport’s 40-year lease on the property is due to expire Dec. 31.

Under proposed terms of new long-term lease with the Boston Planning & Development Agency, Massport would pay annual fixed rent of $160,000. The initial term would run through June 2026, with five optional renewal periods of five years.

Under a proposed community benefits agreement, Massport would install a pedestrian and bike path under the Tobin Bridge from the Barry Playground on Medford Street connecting to the Boston Harborwalk in the Charlestown Navy Yard and beyond. And a new bike and pedestrian path would be built along the Mystic Branch rail corridor from Main Street near Sullivan Square to 275 Main St.

Vehicle imports at the Autoport totaled 83,000 in fiscal 2019, according to Massport documents, a 1.3 percent increase over the previous year.

The BPDA board of directors is scheduled this afternoon to review a three-month extension of the existing lease, allowing for a final agreement to be negotiated with Massport.
