Nitsch Engineering, a Boston-based firm that specializes in providing engineering and planning services for infrastructure and site development projects, has opened its Washington, D.C. office. This is the company’s fourth location and the first outside of Massachusetts.

“We’ve been providing planning and engineering services in the Mid-Atlantic area since 2000, when we began a long-term relationship with the University of Virginia,” Nitsch CEO Lisa A. Brothers said in a statement. “Since then, we’ve worked on more than 30 projects, including our current projects with DC Water integrating green infrastructure solutions into streetscapes, and with the University of Virginia preparing a stormwater master plan for the East Range. We’re excited that opening our D.C. office gives us the opportunity to become an even stronger presence in the area.”

Nitsch was selected as a Green Infrastructure Challenge winner by DC Water in a 2013 international design competition. As part of this project, Nitsch designed innovative solutions to absorb stormwater before it enters the combined sewer system; the company integrated 33 green infrastructure best management practices within a single city block. Nitsch is now working with AKRF, an environmental engineering firm, and Anchor Construction to implement green infrastructure solutions for DC Water across the Rock Creek watershed.

Nitsch Engineering’s new office is located at 2175 K St. in Washington, D.C. The company’s other offices are located in Boston (its headquarters), Lawrence and Worcester.
