The landlord of the second-tallest building in the U.S. has selected a Boston-based proptech startup to deliver tenant experience services through its mobile app.

EQ Office said it will deploy HqO’s software for Chicago’s 110-story Willis Tower. The 4.6-million-square-foot tower is undergoing a $500 million renovation adding 300,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space and 150,000 square feet of tenant amenity space.

HqO’s mobile app provides tenants with notifications on building events and transit schedules, can be used to control building access and provides anonymized user data to landlords.

HqO – short for “Headquarters Optimized” – last fall received $6.6 million in venture funding led by Accomplice, which is being used to hire an additional 25 employees. The app is in use locally at properties owned by Newton-based National Development and Boston developer Bulfinch.

Dan Koh, who unsuccessfully ran for the Democratic nomination in Massachusetts’ 3rd Congressional District and is a former chief of staff to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, joined the company as partner in January.
