A Massachusetts Port Authority screening committee has recommended two finalists for the organization’s CEO position – and despite applying for the permanent role, acting CEO John Pranckevicius did not make the cut.

The committee named Lisa Wieland, Massport’s port director, and Brian Golden, director of the Boston Planning & Development Agency and a former state representative, as the finalists during a board of directors meeting Thursday morning, according to a statement from Massport.

More than 100 people submitted applications for the CEO position, the release said. Massport spokeswoman Jennifer Mehigan confirmed in an email that Pranckevicius, who has been serving as the authority’s head on an interim basis since November, was among the applicants.

Once a new CEO takes over, Pranckevicius will return to his previous role as Massport chief financial officer, according to the statement.

“Being the acting CEO for Massport has been a tremendous professional and personal experience for me,” Pranckevicius said in the statement. “I would like to thank both the board for the opportunity and my fellow colleagues for their hard work and support. There are great things happening throughout the authority and once the transition to the next CEO is completed, I am excited to jump back in as the authority’s CFO and continue advancing Massport’s agenda.”

The agency’s board of directors will hold a special meeting on June 27 to vote on which of the two finalists to name the next CEO. Massport’s permanent CEO, Thomas Glynn, resigned in August 2018 and is currently heading Harvard University’s efforts to redevelop its large land holdings in Allston.

Massport Board Chair Lew Evangelidis, senior board member Sean O’Brien and Transportation Secretary Stephanie Pollack have been reviewing applications and meeting with candidates since January.

“More than 100 candidates applied from a wide range of professional backgrounds in the private, public, government and nonprofit sectors,” Evangelidis said in the statement. “We’re confident in recommending these finalists, who have demonstrated the leadership skills to build on Massport’s recent successes and collaborate with the authority’s talented senior staff and many engaged stakeholders to ensure that the authority continues to benefit the commonwealth’s economy, transportation system and neighboring communities.”
