The state Housing Appeals Committee has denied Braintree’s appeal in the case of a 78-unit Chapter 40B development.

The town had claimed it had met one of the affordable housing law’s two thresholds for “safe harbor,” with at least 1.5 percent of its land area devoted to affordable housing. The HAC ruled it had improperly counted 8 acres and only 1.4 percent of its land area was devoted to affordable housing, The Patriot Ledger reports.

The Holland Cos. is proposing a 40B project with eight townhomes and 70 apartments on a site in Braintree Square.
