Bulfinch Triangle Retailer Packs Up Its Tent

The departure of a Bulfinch Triangle retail mainstay for over half a century has triggered a change of ownership at 268-274 Friend St. in Boston.

Hilton’s Tent City recently relocated to 533-563 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge and sold its longtime property at 268-274 Friend St. to 272 Friendly Lion LLC for $5.1 million. The 5-story, 16,874-square-foot brick building was the home to the outdoors equipment retailer since the early 1960s following its relocation from Scollay Square during the Government Center urban redevelopment project.

Caroline Ligotti, Emily McGranaghan and Linda Redeker of Boston City Group Inc., a commercial brokerage team now with Coldwell Banker Real Estate of 137 Newbury St., represented the seller and procured the buyer.

The buyer group includes Mark Epker of Dedham-based Vantage Real Estate, Jason Weissman of Boston Realty Advisors and Jason Korb of Newton-based multifamily developer Capstone Communities.
