The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has named a handful of New Englanders among its latest slate of non-governmental advisors.

The agency announced on Friday that it had appointed new consumer experts from outside the federal government to its Consumer Advisory Board, Community Bank Advisory Council, Credit Union Advisory Council and Academic Research Council. The four bodies provide advice to bureau leadership on a broad range of consumer financial issues and emerging market trends.

“The bureau’s advisory board and councils play an important role in making sure that the bureau is taking into account the wide variety of perspectives and views in the consumer financial marketplace,” Director Richard Cordray said in a statement. “The new additions being announced today bring experience and knowledge that will help inform the CFPB’s work going forward.”

Chi Chi Wu, a staff attorney with the National Consumer Law Center in Boston, was named to the bureau’s Consumer Advisory Board.

Patrick F. Harrigan, chief risk officer and general counsel at Service Credit Union in Portsmouth, N.H. was named as one of the members of its Credit Union Advisory Council.

Ian Ayres and William K. Townsend of Yale Law School and Brigitte Madrian of Harvard University were named to the bureau’s Academic Research Council.
