Citi Community Development has awarded a $20,000 grant to Roxbury’s Urban Edge to support its foreclosure prevention counseling program.

The program helps hundreds of homeowners from Boston and the region avoid foreclosure through in-person counseling and intervention by Urban Edge’s counseling staff working at the agency’s headquarters in Roxbury.

Citi began with a $10,000 start-up grant in 2007, with the Citi Foundation’s Citi Community Scholar Intern Program. This innovative program allowed Urban Edge to hire a recent college graduate as the first intern in Urban Edge’s Community Programs Department. The intern became is a trusted staff member. Building on the success of this program, Urban Edge has been recruiting interns focused on foreclosure prevention from local law schools, churches and firms.

Since 2009, Citi Community Development and the Citi Foundation have supported Urban Edge with a total of $90,000, making it the most consistent private sector funder of Urban Edge’s foreclosure prevention program, according to a statement.
