Community Good Works

Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union donated $1,500 to Clean River Project through its We Share a Common Thread Foundation. The Methuen-based organization is dedicated to improving the water quality in the Merrimack River and other local water sources through prevention and community education.

Diversity is the operating word in this week’s Community Good Works, as 7 financial institutions and an insurance agency each dedicate themselves to a different cause.

Arbella Insurance

Arbella employees have joined forces with the Arbella Insurance Foundation for the ninth consecutive year to raise funds to provide cancer screenings and education for medically underserved populations through the work of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Arbella employees raised over $20,000 at the annual Pink Day event, held Oct. 2. Those funds were matched by the Arbella Insurance Foundation for a total donation of more than $40,000.

East Boston Savings Bank

East Boston Savings Bank presented two Curry College students with a scholarship toward their academic years. This year’s scholarship recipients are John Conway, a junior-year accounting major, and Anthony Cao, a sophomore-year information technology major.

 

Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston awarded a total of $20,000 to two local nonprofit organizations through the bank’s charitable contribution fund. A $10,000 grant was awarded to Boston Area Gleaners, a nonprofit organization based in Watertown, dedicated to collecting surplus farm crops for people in need. A $10,000 grant was also awarded to Early Investors, a Braintree-based nonprofit organization that fosters comprehensive financial literacy in young adults by instilling the importance of financial education, asset-building and wealth management.

 

Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union

Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union named its latest Give-A-Click winner, Clean River Project. Clean River Project is dedicated to improving the water quality in the Merrimack River and other local water sources through prevention and community education. The Methuen-based organization won a $1,500 donation from the credit union’s We Share a Common Thread Foundation.

Leader Bank

Leader Bank employees participated in a food drive that collected approximately 1,800 pounds of food for the Greater Boston Food Bank, equating to approximately 1,500 meals. Leader Bank will team up with Big Foot Moving Co. to deliver the donations to the Greater Boston Food Bank.

North Shore Bank

North Shore Bank presented the Alzheimer’s Association’s Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter with a check for $1,460 from the proceeds collected during June’s Jeans Day fundraiser proceeds. The mission of the Alzheimer’s Association is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

 

Rollstone Bank & Trust

Rollstone Bank & Trust collected donations for the American Red Cross and offered to match the first $5,000. The final tally was $8,080.97.

Wellesley Bank

The Wellesley Bank Charitable Foundation announced a 10-year, $50,000 commitment to the Wellesley Council on Aging, Tolles Parson Center.
