M&T Bank

Buffalo-based M&T Bank’s foundation donated $250,000 to three Massachusetts nonprofits working for environmental justice. The money, the bank said, was part of the first tranche of its Amplify Fund, a $25 million charitable effort across New York State and New England launched as part of the community benefits package coming out if M&T’s purchase of People’s United Bank. The three groups – Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corp., Groundwork Lawrence and the Merrimack River Watershed Council – were chosen through a competitive RFP process.

Sheet Metal Workers Local 17

Boston-based construction trade union Sheet Metal Workers Local 17 announced the awarding of $151,000 in scholarships to 29 high school and college students. The scholarships are funded by a $0.07-per-hour-worked contribution by the union’s members. Since 1983, the union has contributed over $2.2 million to local students.

TD Bank

TD Bank announced that its foundation had given out $650,000 to three Massachusetts nonprofits working to make housing more affordable. The donations – $250,000 to Family Aid Boston Inc., $250,000 to Nuestra Comunidad Development Corp. and $150,000 to NewVue Communities – will help fund rental assistance, the rehabilitation of affordable rental properties and building the groups’ organizational capacity. The grants were part of a larger $7 million package of donations to 37 nonprofits in 15 states and the District of Columbia across the bank’s footprint.
