The National Park Service has selected Milford-based Consigli Construction to build a new museum at the Lincoln Memorial and perform an extensive series of updates to the century-old Washington, D.C. landmark.

The project – scheduled to begin in March – includes construction of a 15,000-square-foot exhibition space beneath the memorial with views of the foundation and new multimedia exhibits focused on the memorial’s construction and setting for civil rights protests.

Consigli also will construct an expanded bookstore and install new mechanical and security systems.

Consigli’s mid-Atlantic market team previously was awarded projects by the Smithsonian Institution and Architect of the Capitol, and was selected by the National Park Service to perform recent upgrades to the Netherlands Carillon in Arlington, Virginia.

“Our Mid-Atlantic team is ready to undertake this critically important project, and we look forward to working collaboratively with the National Park Service and our partners to deliver this once-in-a-lifetime renovation,” President Matthew Consigli said in a statement.

The Lincoln Memorial will remain open during the construction project, scheduled to run from March through 2026.
