Today’s opening of a new county courthouse location expands Woburn-based Cummings Properties’ tenant roster of public agencies at its local commercial real estate portfolio.

The Middlesex County Probate and Family Court South relocated from 208 Cambridge St. in East Cambridge to 10 Commerce Way in Woburn. The state Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance signed the lease for 50,000 square feet with Cummings Properties following a bid process.

Cummings’ in-house team built out the space including a new glass and architectural panel main entry, operable windows and four courtrooms with custom millwork and skylights. The facility also includes judges’ quarters, a private area for families to meet with their representatives, and a file storage space for the Register of Probate. The new location has free parking for staff and visitors, although the courts are holding most of their hearings virtually during the pandemic.

Opening of the south county location follows the May 2020 creation of the new Middlesex Probate and Family Court North location at the new Lowell Justice Center.
