Summer St. at 7:40 a.m.An eight-alarm fire in Boston’s historic Fort Point neighborhood has left the property at 327-333 Summer St. smoking through the morning.

The Boston Fire Department reported via Twitter that there were no injuries from the blaze. As of 10 a.m., firefighters were still battling flames on the second and third floors.

BFD officials estimated $2 million in damage to the building. The cause is still under investigation. The fire at the property, built by the Boston Wharf Co. in 1911, was discovered just before 4:30 a.m., according to the BFD Twitter account.

Real estate investment and development firms Synergy Investments and DivcoWest jointly acquired the 106,000-square-foot office building, along with a 48,000-square-foot office building at nearby 319 A St. and the 657-space Necco Street Garage, from the Archon Group for $53 million earlier this year.

The new ownership was in the process of completely renovating the vacant building, and has been showing it to prospective tenants of all sizes, according to a commercial real estate broker with direct knowledge of the activity at the property. The base building work was expected to be complete mid-2014, with tenants able to move in by the end of the year or early 2015.

Proposals from the landlords have set the per square-foot rental price in the mid-$40s. Industry sources said there was the potential for a roofdeck on the brick and beam building. Synergy and DivcoWest did not return phone calls by press time.

The property contains approximately 15,000-square-foot floor plates, which are "very attractive sizes" for tenants looking for an open floor plan, according to the commercial broker.
