Boston-based developer and contractor Cruz Cos. has been given the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business of the Year award.

The firm is one of the oldest and largest minority-owned companies in the Northeast.

“A third-generation, family-owned business, Cruz is a modern firm that values old-fashioned quality and integrity,” the citation reads. “The John B. Cruz Construction Co. is responsible for landmark projects and developments across the region; Cruz Development Corp. produces well-designed homes, maintaining the highest standards of workmanship, and Cruz Management Co. Inc., provides quality residential housing management services.”

The company’s most recent projects include a pair of large developments in Roxbury: the 4-story, 95-unit Dr. Michael E. Haynes Arms and a proposed 110-unit mixed condominium-apartment project next to the Dudley Square library.
