A team of Boylston Properties and Medford-based Velney Development is seeking to redevelop a century-old industrial property near Arnold Arboretum Roslindale for 230 apartments.

The proposed development would occupy a 2.3-acre property at 18-22 Arboretum Road and 43 Lochdale Road.

The property currently contains a 42,888-square-foot manufacturing building and is currently owned by Gertel Maurice Trust, according to Boston assessing data.

The project would consist of a 6-story, 70-foot-tall building including 230 apartments and 124 parking spaces, including on-site affordable units, attorney Johanna Schneider of Hemenway & Barnes wrote in a notification letter to the Boston Planning & Development Agency.

The project would include 38,000 square feet of open space, 100 new native trees, rain gardens and retain corridors to promote pollination.

“The proposed project presents a unique opportunity to redevelop a dilapidated industrial site into a vibrant residential community” while opening new connections to Arnold Arboretum, Schneider wrote.

Developers will need to receive Boston Zoning Board of Appeal approval for the apartment use, floor area ratio, height and parking requirements, according to the notification letter. The property is zoned for industrial use in the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood District.
