Have you ever wondered what the state does with settlements over unlawful lending practices? At least some of that money goes to Massachusetts high schools for financial reality fairs.

The Division of Banks and State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg’s office this week announced the latest round of grant recipients. The Treasurer’s Office awarded about $80,000 to 21 high schools to expand or establish “Credit for Life” fairs. This is the fourth installment of grant awards.

“I have personally witnessed the positive impact the Credit for Life fairs have had on our high school students,” Goldberg said in a statement. “The inclusion of chapter 766 schools within this round of grants highlights our commitment to bring quality financial education to every student across the commonwealth.”

“We are pleased to partner with the Treasurer’s Office again awarding grants through the Innovation Fund,” Banking Commissioner Terence McGinnis said. “Financial literacy is important to begin at a young age, and the Credit for Life Fairs are a small piece of the puzzle helping to shape the financial future for students.”
