Atlanta-based developer Wood Partners is hoping to build 371 apartments on the former site of a downtown Worcester church according to an application filed with the city Planning Board last week.
Amenities at the Alta-branded building will include a 502-spot parking garage, a pocket park, swimming pool, fire pits and grills, a fitness center, game room, electric vehicle charging stations and resident remote work lounges.
The property at 28 Mulberry St. sits a stone’s throw from Worcester’s main bus terminal and MBTA commuter rail station, and a short walk from the city’s downtown.
The project would be Worcester’s second big, ground-up, all-market-rate multifamily development after Roseland Residential’s 365-unit Front Street property, which finished lease-up in the second quarter of 2019. The city’s downtown has seen many projects in recent years financed with government affordable housing and historic preservation funds, but recently also saw plans emerge for a large office-to-residential conversion.
Worcester officials say they hope to continue attracting market-rate development as interest grows in the area on the heels of the city’s new baseball stadium, home to the AAA Worcester Red Sox.
