A Financial District building that’s part of Boston confectionary history is under new ownership for the first time in decades.

The property at 42-48 Batterymarch St. was the home of a five-story H.L. Hildreth candy factory in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At one time, it churned out 10 tons of candy products including Hildreth’s Velvet Molasses Taffy daily, according to brokerage Boston City Group Inc. The building later housed a location of the Waldorf Lunch dining chain.

42-48 Batterymarch LLC of Newton acquired the two-story, 4,329-square-foot building for $1.8 million last week. Corporate records list the managers as Manuel and George Sarkis.

Boston City Group, Inc.’s Caroline Ligotti, Linda Redeker and Emily McGranaghan marketed the property and represented the seller, BGT Trust.
