Newton-based Crosspoint Assoc.’s acquisition of a former car dealership property on Route 9 in Framingham will enable the expansion of the existing Whole Foods Market at its adjacent shopping center.

The 2.7-acre site previously occupied by Colonial Nissan was acquired by Crosspoint for $9 million. Crosspoint is planning a 14,000-square-foot addition to the neighboring grocery-anchored shopping center, including an expansion of the Whole Foods Market to 43,617 square feet. The remainder of the space would include other retail tenants including a new Starbucks building with drive-up service, according to Associated Brokerage Group.

Associated Brokerage Group’s Bernard Gibbons represented the seller, Empire Management Corp., and procured the buyer. Boston Real Estate Advisors’ Craig Barker represented Crosspoint Assoc.

“Grocery-anchored shopping centers have been one of the few bright spots for retail during this health crisis, and the acquisition of the Colonial dealership allows Crosspoint to expand the size of the store and retain its anchor tenant,” Gibbons said in a statement.
