Pittsfield-based Greylock Federal Credit Union announced it has joined the African American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC), and plans to take a steps to strengthen access to financial services for Berkshires residents of color.
Greylock also announced its board has voted to sign on to a national Credit Union Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Collective’s statement of solidarity and commitment to change.
Credit unions that take the pledge commit to review their products, pricing and fee structures to make sure they don’t penalize groups that have histocially lacked access to financial services. The pledge also requires signatories to recruiting more diverse staff and leadership, along with making their internal cultures more welcoming to people of color.
“This call to action is directly in line with Greylock’s long held commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility. The pledge serves to strengthen our resolve to help our entire community to thrive,” Greylock President and CEO John L. Bissell said in a statement. “Our board is committed to the hard work that lies before us during this time of great social change.”
Since its launch on Juneteenth, over 150 credit unions have signed on.
