What: 88 Black Falcon
Where: Boston
Owner: The Davis Cos.

The Davis Cos. of Boston has unveiled a redesign of 88 Black Falcon Pier, including a new art program celebrating the industrial maritime roots of the South Boston property.

Entitled “The Art of Making It,” it features 38 photographs depicting Massachusetts’ wooden boatbuilding industry by photographer Alison Shaw. Backlit graphics on the building’s exterior are visible from across Boston Harbor, and 30 images are displayed inside the 376,000-square-foot complex.

Dyer Brown Architects worked with The Davis Cos. to rebrand the complex on the eastern tip of the Seaport District. The entrance to the site is now marked by the “88” brand in bronze metallic signage and by a series of oversized, backlit panels featuring boat building images. The multiple building lobbies now feature bronze metal and wood plank-lined walls with oversized graphics and bold colors that lead to a fitness center, café with floor-to-ceiling windows and solarium seating area with water views.

“With this bold, modern redesign and expansive new amenity spaces, we have converted the property into an appealing location for a diverse tenant base, including marine, industrial, high-tech, R&D and innovation firms seeking a one-of-a-kind urban waterfront environment.”— Duncan Gilkey, senior vice president of leasing and asset management at The Davis Cos.
