What: The Incubator at Sasaki

Where: 64 Pleasant St., Watertown

Owner: Sasaki

Built: 2018

The Incubator at Sasaki is a new 5,000-square-foot flexible research studio and shared workspace at Sasaki’s Watertown headquarters.

Designed to bridge academic research and practice, the incubator will be a creative hub for research of resiliency, mobility and social equity in built environment designs.

The Sasaki Foundation will activate the space with public programs, facilitate research initiatives and invite teams to use the space which includes 46 workstations, a clerestory-lit central lounge, conference rooms, phone rooms and an open kitchen.

“We are creating an ecosystem of innovation at the Incubator at Sasaki that leverages the resources of a global design firm and Boston’s network of talent. Design has the power to do so much and we thought there is no reason why we shouldn’t be using a design mindset to solve larger problems that extend beyond the traditional bounds of design, and invite others in. We aim to convene people with diverse skill-sets to join us here in solving the biggest challenges facing us today, delving into issues of mobility, climate change and equity.”
