What: Abcam offices and labs
Where: 152 Grove St., Waltham
Owner: Hilco Redevelopment Partners
Built: 1941

The Boston office of tenant representation brokerage Cresa was selected by global life sciences company Abcam to manage its relocation from Cambridge’s Kendall Square to Waltham. Cresa managed the site selection, transaction management and project management for the U.K. company, which develops biological reagents used in drug discovery.

Abcam opened its first overseas office in 2003 at One Kendall Square. Needing a larger footprint, it selected Cresa as broker for an over 10-year, 100,000-square-foot lease at 152 Grove St. Approximately 300 of the company’s 1,600 global employees will relocate to the facility beginning this summer.

Known as The Gauge, the former R&D facility is being redeveloped as life science space by Hilco Redevelopment Partners.

Paul Delaney and John Coakley of Cresa Boston negotiated the lease for Abcam, and Mike O’Leary and Duncan Gratton from Cushman & Wakefield represented ownership.

They Said It:

“Boston is home to a dynamic life sciences community and being an active part of that community is important to Abcam. Our new facility will offer the space and amenities for growth that we need to meet our anticipated demands, while enabling us to actively engage with the life sciences corridors of the Greater Boston region.”
