Renovations and rehabilitation of a Classical Revival building at Dorchester’s Uphams Corner received recognition from a pair of preservation groups.

Kaplan Construction oversaw the renovation and rehabilitation of the nearly 130-year-old Pierce Building to create new office and retail space now occupied by a JPMorgan Chase “community center” branch, two local nonprofits and Dorchester Bay EDC.

The work included repairs to structural steel, replacement of decorative cast-iron cladding and a full interior renovation.

The project recently received achievement awards from the Boston Preservation Alliance and Preservation Massachusetts.

They Said It:

“Upham’s Corner is experiencing a period of revival, and it’s crucial to the community that its history and character remain accessible in the landscape as new buildings emerge. Dorchester Bay itself is an anchor of the community, and the Pierce Building’s restoration maintains a tangible connection between people and place in this thriving neighborhood.”
