What: The 105
Where: 105 West First St., South Boston
Owner: Breakthrough Properties
Built: 2020-2022

Dyer Brown & Assoc. designed signage and graphics at The 105 in South Boston to enhance the brand identity of tenant CRISPR Therapeutics, including a CRISPR sign atop the building and over the entrance canopy and a large “105” logo on a street-facing concrete wall.

Designed by Payette, the 266,000-square-foot office-lab building’s facade is broken up with undulating glazed terra cotta panels that are intended to evoke DNA strands.

Boston-based Dyer Brown proposed a package of wayfinding elements to create a unified identity and experience, drawing inspiration from both the CRISPR’s modernist brand identity.

They Said It:

“From a point of view that values seamless experience, it’s always best when the architecture itself suggests pathways and guides occupants. Signage and graphics can be that last touch where the architect reaches out with information you need.”
