This week’s forecast calls for another nor’easter to follow the one that combined with astronomical high tides to flood the much of East Coast last week. Affected property owners probably hope the magnitude and frequency of those storms would serve as a call-to-action for Congress to reform the beleaguered National Flood Insurance Program.

Joe Rossi of Rogers & Gray Insurance in South Dennis is not optimistic about the chances of that happening in 2018.

Rossi is also chairman of the Massachusetts and Marshfield Coastal Coalitions and sits on the board of directors of the National Flood Determination Association. He said the program, which has been extended several times since expiring last year, is due to expire on March 23, 2018

“Our legislative liaison says that due to disagreements with the U.S. House and Senate, we most likely will see extensions until years end with no real reform,” Rossi wrote in an email. “If there’s a chance for any type of reform, it will be in the next three weeks.”
