Following a series of capital improvements, developer Marcus Partners has sold the Back Bay landmark Horticultural Hall to Northeastern University.

The university signed a $22 million ground lease for the 45,000-square-foot property across Massachusetts Avenue from Symphony Hall. A Northeastern spokesperson was not immediately available for comment on the school’s plans.

Marcus Partners had owned the 45,000-square-foot office in 2017. The property is 100 percent leased to four tenants including Boston Magazine, which occupies approximately 40 percent of the building.

During Marcus Partners’ ownership, a series of renovations included a lobby renovation and updates to interiors and mechanical systems.

“It was a thrill to help restore and bring new life to the property. Finally, we are pleased that Northeastern is the new owner as they are a first-class institution across the board who will undoubtedly be great stewards of this gem for years to come,” Peter Cameron, a principal with Marcus Partners, said in a statement.
