It was a relatively quiet month for bank branch activity in December, as JPMorgan Chase established one local branch while Bank of America closed an ATM location, according to the latest data from the OCC.

Chase opened a branch on 280B E. Main St in Westfield on Dec. 12, in a former Starbucks location.

The OCC also approved Chase’s planned branch at the intersection of Cushing Highway and Beechwood Street in Cohasset. The bank also applied to open another branch in a former Thai restaurant location at the intersection of Washington Street and Foster Street in Boston’s Brighton neighborhood.

Chase is in the middle of an sizable expansion plan in Massachusetts, aiming to have a total of 90 branches in the state.

Bank of America officially closed an ATM location on Dec. 5 at 693 High St. in Westwood. The move is part of the bank’s roster of ATM and branch closures for 2023.

Citizens Bank also secured an OCC approval for the opening of a new branch on 772 Boylston St. in Boston, the site of First Republic Bank’s former branch in the ground floor of the Mandarin Oriental hotel. It also filed to close a branch on the second floor of the Legacy Place Building 400 the lifestyle center of the same name in Dedham.
