People’s United Bank will close 12 branches in western and central Massachusetts, including three in Worcester, as part of its branch consolidation following its acquisition of United Bank.

A total of 30 branches, including 18 in Connecticut, will close by April 2020. There will be no additional branch closings related to the Nov. 1 merger, according to a People’s United spokesman.

“The result will be a thoughtfully integrated branch network that has been optimized to eliminate overlap and deliver our combined customers continued convenient access to a People’s United branch,” Jack Barnes, People’s United Bank’s CEO, said in a statement. “Combined with our personalized mobile and online banking services, we feel our presence statewide is stronger than ever, and we look forward to building relationships with the loyal customers of United Bank,”

The majority of the closings affect former United Bank locations, including three in Worcester. Former United Banks at 1 Mercantile St. and Chadwick Square in Worcester are within a quarter of a mile of a People’s United branch.

Branches closing in West Springfield and East Longmeadow were former Farmington Bank locations acquired by People’s United in 2018. People’s United branches in Hatfield and Holyoke will also close.

The branches scheduled to close are:

  • Worcester: 1 Mercantile St.
  • Worcester: 1393 Grafton St.
  • Worcester: Chadwick Square, 1 West Boylston St.
  • West Boylston: 26 West Boylston St.
