NEI General Contracting has completed construction of a multifamily project creating 49 income-restricted apartments in the Egleston Square section of Roxbury.

Named after neighborhood activist Delphine Walker, the Walker Park project redeveloped three blighted urban infill lots into a two-building housing complex next to a public library and playground.

Both apartment buildings have units ranging from one to three bedrooms.

Eight units are set aside for households earning 30 percent of the area median income and for homeless individuals and families, while the remaining 41 units are designated for households earning no more than 60 percent area median income.

“These homes will increase the stock of apartments in an area facing rapid gentrification,” Emily Loomis, director of real estate at Walker Park developer Urban Edge, said in a statement.

Designed by Boston-based Prellwitz Chilinski Assoc., the project received $9.4 million in MassDevelopment bonds and $5.8 million in federal low income housing tax credits.

NEI General Contracting, which has offices in Randolph and Ocoee, Florida, has completed over $1 billion in projects over the last 20 years. Walker Park project team members also included Wozny Barber & Associates, Samiotes Consultants Inc., Roome & Guarracino LLC and Hammer + Walsh Design Inc.
