Another multifamily project is being proposed along Jamaica Plain’s Washington Street corridor, this time by the owners of a neighborhood fixture who hope to expand their business at the same time.
BMS Paper Supply, a restaurant supply store with its operations in a large, brick 1920 warehouse at 3390 Washington St., wants to build 160 market-rate and affordable units in a 199,000-square-foot building on the 2-acre property. The project would also include “a moderately priced neighborhood style restaurant” and space for an expanded BMS store.
“The Proposed Project represents a unique opportunity to create new housing while renovating and rejuvenating a community based business in the heart of JP,” the letter of intent filed with the Boston Planning & Development Agency states. “The proposal follows in the spirit of the JP/ROX planning guidelines.”
If approved, the project would rise next to a recently-approved affordable housing development by homeless shelter The Pine Street Inn, which would offer permanent supportive housing to currently homeless individuals. However, that project has been hit with delays following a suit by landlord Monty Gold, who owns a neighboring brewery’s building. Gold contends the project will create parking problems for the brewery, which sits a four-minute walk from the Green Street Orange Line station.
The BMS project is one of several recent developments proposed or approved in the Washington Street corridor south of Eggleston Square.
